The customer’s process involved straightening bars and performing a run-out measurement check of the first 3-4 bars from every set. An overhead crane placed bars on a set of rollers where workers spun them manually and checked the ends with dial indicators. The overhead crane placed good bars back with other completed bars and moved bad bars to an input area for re-running. This process took about 8 minutes per bar and depended heavily upon availability of the overhead crane.
MVB’s solution replaced the manual checks with vision applications and replaced the multiple overhead crane operations, utilizing hydraulic operations and conveyor systems which ultimately reduced operation time to 10 sec per bar producing 100% quality on the run-out process allowing for higher output and realizing an ROI in 7 months vs the estimated 1.5yrs.
